For the Lionhearted Author
Richard, did I briefly meet you in a San Francisco bois years ago? My wife and I were with friends Jan and Jay Stecher, from Berkeley. I seem to recall you distributing these cards.
This business card is a relic of a submarine sailor’s bar in San Francisco. The bar still exists, but not in The City. This location served the thirsty sailor in a style that mimicked Tommy’s Joint out on Van Ness.
On ever available surface of the Horse And Cow, they were adorned with mementos of submarines cruises. Booths were illuminated by ship’s lamps, mess deck furniture served the patrons, quarterdeck awnings draped the walls. There is a ship’s bell to announce a round (of drinks or a fight).
